Toronto Lakeshore West, OFO Field Trip 13 hardy birders explored the Lake Ontario shoreline west of Toronto today. Persistent rain was met with persistent birding. The species total of 46 was modest but hard-earned. Highlights included three grebe species at Colonel Sam Park (no Eared Grebe), Mockingbirds at both Colonel Sam and Humber Bay and a surprise ending with 4 warbler species seen at Sedgewick Park. We picked up Nashville, Orange-crowned, Cap May and Yellow-rumped all in a short period of time. Also present at Sedgewick were, Ruby-crowned Kinglet and American Robin. We missed the Blackpoll, but certainly weren’t complaining. This was a real hotspot!
Getting There: Sedgewick: Take third line from QEW down to Hixon, east on Hixon to the end where it dead ends. Walk through the park to the open pipeline and turn right toward the sewage treatment plant. Birds are on east side toward the lake. Samuel Smith Park: Located at the south end of Kipling off Lakeshore Blvd, next to Humber College. Humber Bay Park: Off the QEW, coming from the west, take the exit to Park Lawn. Go south. Cross Lakeshore Road, then turn right to the parking area. Off the QEW, coming from the east, exit at Lakeshore Road. Turn right onto Lakeshore Road, then left at the lights into Humber Bay Park East. -- John Schmelefske # 7360 RR # 4 Alliston, Ontario,Canada, L9R 1V4 Email: [email protected] Watercolour Gallery: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2001214&id=1051632050&l=ea990bf4ce _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
