Monday afternoon, our birding party was surprised to find an adult Ross's Goose feeding with a flock of Canadas at the golf course approximately halfway between Adam Beck and the Whirlpool on the west side of the Niagara Parkway - it was on a small hill just south of the golf course pond, visible from the road but not exactly in an ideal place to stop.
Additionally, a Franklin's Gull showing wingtip markings consistent with a second winter bird showed up at the Whirlpool at around 11:30, arriving from upriver with a group of Bonaparte's Gulls and flying a broad circle over the area before heading back upriver with the Bonaparte's flock. In addition to the usual suspects, we had several adult Kumlien's Iceland Gulls at Adam Beck and Queenston, two Lesser Black-backeds above the falls and a single adult Glaucous. The famous rocks by the barge also yielded a single Purple Sandpiper. Good birding!
