Hi Ontbirders:

This morning I had the pleasure to observe a small flock of Pine Grosbeaks at
the Ottawa Duck Club feeders along March Valley Road near Riddell. There were
a number of males in the group.....my first this season. Most flocks I have
seen up to now comprise mostly females and some immature male birds. The
sunlight really showed off nicely the rosy red plumage on the birds. As bad
timing would have it, just as a few of the birds...including males...flew onto
the snowbank and road in front of me, a few vehicles pulled up right at the
same time. I had planned to get some good photos of the birds with the sun
behind me.

A reminder to watch where you stop your car along March Valley Road. The
snowbank hides where the slope along the edge of the road falls off sharply. I
know of two vehicles that have veered off the road (one was actually a dump
truck).
