Hi all,
I decided to sign up for this list after finding a few decent winter birds
around the Greenbank area (5 Eastern Bluebirds, 1 White-crowned Sparrow, 1
Red-bellied Woodpecker, and 2 Lapland Longspurs - you can contact me in private
for details of any of those sightings if you're interested but most were seen
upwards of a week ago).
I am based in Port Perry, so I decided to venture south towards Brooklin but
only made it as far as Myrtle. Just south of Myrtle there is a tree farm and
it has a couple rows of fruiting trees. I had seen a flock of 16 Pine
Grosbeaks near the corner of Duffs Rd. and Townline Rd. an hour or so earlier,
but passing the tree farm I noticed a bigger flock of Pine Grosbeaks feasting
on the fruits at the tree farm. I managed to count around 36 Pine Grosbeaks
flying and there was also a lone Cedar Waxwing in the mix. I figure the
initial flock of 16 Pine Grosbeaks came from the tree farm as they flew in from
the west and flew back to the east after landing in a patch of conifers for a
few minutes.
Good birding,Jeremy GattenSaanichton, B.C. (but currently in Port Perry, ON)
