Amherst Island 2pm Jan 5th 2013
3 Eastern Bluebirds were seen and heard 200m south of the corner of Front Road and Emerald 40 Ft Road. This is in the northeast quadrant of the island. They were picking at the gravel of the roadway and sitting on the powerlines. 4pm Jan 5th 2013 1 Eastern Meadowlark was seen on Lower 40 Ft Road at the south end, along the KFN property in the grass at the side of the road. Also seen were two seperate pairs of Rough-legged Hawks, one pair light morph, the other dark, performing some type of aerial acrobatics that included talon to talon grappling. A single light bird was observed holding a dead vole which it ate once it spit up the remains of its last meal. At least 8 RLHA were observed in total. As well: 1 Snowy Owl 4 Short-eared Owl and, 30 various common sp. Amherst Island is a short $9 ferry ride south of Millhaven, near Kingston. Note ferry is cash only, and leaves Millhaven on the half hour.
