Hello Ontbirds people,

A long-time and true pillar of the Ottawa birding community passed away on
Sunday February 3, 2013.

Not an ornithologist, but much more than just a birder, Gordon was an honoured
career mineralogist (the rare mineral "Pringleite" is named after him), and a
highly respected member of the Ottawa Field-Naturalists' Club for at least 3
decades. He served in the past as Chair of the OFNC Birds Committee, and most
recently as Chair of the OFNC Bird Record Subcommittee while remaining an
active member of our Birds Committee.

Gordon knew how to have fun with both birding & science, yet was always the
voice of reason. He also had a rich life with family and friends, and was
unconditionally helpful to everyone who needed him.......all this while coping
with the incurable medical condition Muscular Dystrophy that gradually led to
total loss of mobility other than his sharp and determined mental energy (and
his trusty motorized wheelchair and "Parula-van"), and ultimately his passing
from this world.

I and many others in Ottawa and beyond were privileged to know, work...and have
fun with him.

A memorial service to celebrate Gordon's life will be held:

Saturday February 9, 2013
11:00 AM
Trinity United Church
1099 Mailtand Ave, Otttawa, ON

Sincerely,

Chris Lewis
