TRUMPETER SWAN (2 adult and 1 juv.), probably the pair (with one offspring)
that breed in that area on the Jock River, were seen again on the Mississippi
River in Carleton Place (opposite Riverside Park just west of the high school
on Lake Ave west) on March 16th. The two adults were seen again on the
Mississippi River from Lake Ave east on the 20th.
BOREAL CHICKADEE continue at the feeders (reported on the 17th) at 121 Chemin
Blackburn in Val-des-Monts north of Perkins.
GOLDEN EAGLE (1 juv.) and BALD EAGLE (5) continue to be seen at the base of the
escarpment on the Eardly-Masham Rd. RED-SHOULDERED HAWK (2) were seen from
Kennedy Rd west of the Eardly-Masham Rd on the 16th. An adult GOLDEN EAGLE was
seen flying high and to the NW from the corner of Huntmar and March Roads on
the 17th. A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen in the Milton Rd area and a NORTHERN
GOSHAWK was seen in Orleans on the 16th.
An early HORNED GREBE and a continuing BARROW'S GOLDENEYE (1 female) were seen
on the 16th and 17th near the Quebec shore of the Ottawa River NW of Bate
Island.
Increasing numbers of CANADA GEESE and RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD are being seen all
over our area.
Interesting sighting were;
- BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER continue to be seen in the Stony Swamp Conservation
area
- BOHEMIAN WAXWING flocks continue to move through our area
- BALD EAGLE continue to be reported all over our area
- COMMON and HOARY REDPOLL continue to be seen all over our area. COMMON (80+)
and HOARY (1 m and 1 f) REDPOLL and RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD (36) were seen at the
feeders on Hilda Rd on the 17th.
- LAPLAND LONGSPUR (5) were seen NE of Casselman near Ste-Rose-de-Prescott on
the 16th
- EVENING GROSBEAK ("dozens") continue, usually early to mid morning, at the
backyard feeders on Indian Creek Rd (which becomes Clarence-Cambridge Rd) on
the west edge of the Larose Forest
- CAROLINA WREN (2) continue to be seen in the woods on the west side of the
Britannia Conservation Area
- BARROW'S GOLDENEYE (1 male) continues south of the Rideau River Hurdman bridge
