Dear Ontbirders,

The Winter 2013 Long Point Bird Observatory E-news is now available online -
http://www.birdscanada.org/download/LPBOenews.pdf.

Inside you'll find a summary of the Fall Migration Monitoring season,
Noteworthy Sightings from July 1 to December 31, a summary of the Long Point
Christmas Bird Count, and with other updates from LPBO.

Tundra Swans are still numerous in the Long Point area, but their numbers
have been gradually subsiding. The recent Greater White-fronted and Snow
Goose have not been observed since last weekend, but a pair of Cackling
Geese was observed at Lee Brown's Waterfowl Management area on March 23.
Waterfowl numbers are quite impressive in the Long Point area with about
10,000 individuals of 20 species on the Inner Bay and surrounding wetlands.

Passerine migration has been slow, but a Field Sparrow was observed at the
Old Cut Research Station feeders on March 19 and two American Pipits were at
the Port Rowan Wetland (sewage lagoons) on March 23. Blackbird and grackle
numbers have been increasing daily and are now regularly accompanied by a
few Rusty Blackbirds.

Starting in the first week of April you can read weekly updates about bird
migration and noteworthy sightings in the Long Point on the LPBO sightings
board, available on the LPBO webpage - www.birdscanada.org/lpbo.

We look forward to seeing you around Long Point this spring.

Good birding,

Stu
