 Merlin (1)

Jack Pine Trail:

Black-backed Woodpecker (1 male) amidst several Downy Woodpeckers, a single
Hairy Woodpecker, and, a fly-over Pileated
Brown Creeper (in song)

General-area - Raptors: All seen above the Tim Hortons along March Rd where
it meets Carling Ave. Time: 1:05 PM

Northern Harrier (1) Floating high in the sky
Northern Goshawk (1) Coasting not as high in the sky: feathery undertail,
long tail, broad body, short, broad wings w/ tapered w-tips
Red-tailed Hawk (1) Floating high in the sky
Turkey Vulture (3)

Additional raptor sighting:

Rough-legged Hawk (1, light morph) fly-over @ Nortel Campus adjacent to
Carling Ave

Directions to the Hilda Rd feeders: From Carling Ave. head north on Rifle
Rd then right onto Lois
Ave then right onto Hilda Road.

Directions to Jack Pine Trail: From 416, exit Fallowfield. Head W on
Fallowfield then N onto Moodie. Jack Pine Trail will be on your right,
several km's down from Moodie/Fallowfield intersection. From 417, exit
Moodie, head S along Moodie then S along Old Richmond, then E along West
Hunt Club, then S along Moodie. Jack Pine will be on your left, several
km's down from West Hunt Club/Moodie

Directions to Black-backed Woodpecker: At Jack Pine, enter trail system and
keep right - follow the trail until you reach the main feeder complex (it
backs onto a cedar swamp). The Black-backed was seen on the dead cedars in
that swamp.

Cheers,
Jon Ruddy
