I birded Sam Smith from 12:30pm to 2:30pm this Sunday, April 7th. The Western
Grebe was present and tried unsuccessfully to fly west into a stiff headwind
from the mouth of the marina bay (West end of park) out into open water. Each
time it tried it was forced to land and was blown back into the bay. Nice to
see it so active.

Other notable waterfowl were 2 Blue-winged Teal and 6 Ring-necked Ducks in the
eastern-most bay amongst Lesser Scaup, Redhead, Goldeneye, Wigeon, Gadwall,
Red-breasted Merganser, Bufflehead and a few lingering Long-tailed Ducks.

Also had a few first of spring sightings:
5 Yellow-rumped Warbler
2 Eastern Phoebe
Northern Rough-winged Swallow
Hermit Thrush
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Northern Flicker

Colonel Sam Smith Park is located at the foot of Kipling Avenue, south of
Lakeshore Blvd. West in Etobicoke.

Good Birding,

Iain
