May 7 - The eagles at Strawberry Island in the Niagara River appear to have 2 nestlings. 84 Great Egrets at Motor Island in the Niagara River . There islands are south of Grand Island. >From Goat Island, Niagara Falls, 21 Great Egrets and 14 nests were observed on Weseloh Rocks (the larger islands above the Canadian Falls near the sunken barge). Also 126 Black-crowned Night-Herons and 55 nests, with an additional 37 at the islands at the brink of the Canadian Falls and two more at the water control structure, for a total of 165 Night-Herons. On the small rocks about half way between Weseloh Rocks and the brink of the Canadian Falls 48 Common Terns were counted with eleven looking like they were in incubation position. (This colony was previously reported by David Moore.) Between 11:08 and 11:23 eight Common Terns flew in and landed with minnows in their bills and two were observed copulating. An Osprey flew over Goat Island. Also in the Niagara River at Niagara Falls were 102 Red-breasted Mergansers and three Lesser Scaup.
