Good morning birders, Warblers and other migrants seem to have been very scarce so far this morning, although there are still a few around.
3 Willets were seen this morning resting on shore very far out on South Point Trail (well past the washout). Whip-poor-wills have arrived in the park, with 4 Singing near the visitor centre last night and 2 at the maintenance area this morning. On the marsh trail last evening sightings included Wilson's Snipe, Bald Eagle, many American Woodcock and an impressive 6 American Bittern. I received a report last night confirming the presence of 2 Hooded Warblers at Pony Barn yesterday, and it is quite likely than one or both are still present. Outside the park, 1 Cackling Goose, 1 Trumpeter Swan and 3 Wilson's Phalarope were reported from the Blenheim Sewage Lagoons yesterday. To reach the Visitor Centre from the park Gate, travel 6 km South on Rondeau Road to Gardiner Ave., then follow it around the bend to the parking lot.
