Good morning birders, It's been a great morning of birding so far in Rondeau, as a big influx of warblers and other migrants has moved in. We have not received any reports from trails other than South Point so far. I assume everybody is too busy birding!
One of the Yellow-throated Warblers has been seen again the visitor centre feeders this morning. The biggest rarity of the morning was a Fish Crow seen and heard at the 3 km marker on South Point Trail. South Point has been hopping along the first 2 kilometres from the east entrance. At least 20 species of warblers are present including Orange-crowned, Blackpoll, Blue-winged, Tennessee, Cape May, Northern Parula and Northern Waterthrush. Other birds seen here include Black-billed Cuckoo, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Yellow-throated and Red-eyed Vireo, Scarlet Tanager and Orchard Oriole. We haven't had any other reports but no doubt there are many more interesting birds currently being seen and still to be found. Thank you to everyone who contributed sightings and please continue to do so at the Visitor Centre. More information on the park's nature programs and the Friends of Rondeau is available at the Friends' website: www.rondeauprovincialpark.ca. Directions: Take exit 101 from Highway 401 and drive South 16 km on Chatham Kent Road 15. Turn right and follow the signs to the park. The Bird Sightings Book, Bird Sightings Board, Bird Checklists and other relevant information are to be found at the Visitor Centre. To reach the Visitor Centre from the park Gate, travel 6 km South on Rondeau Road to Gardiner Ave., then follow it around the bend to the parking lot.
