Greetings all,
Tomorrow is the OFO Presqu'ile/Peter's Woods trip that I will be
leading, so I just wanted to mention a few things to help anyone
interested in coming to prepare. The forecast is for a fairly cool
day so please be sure to dress in layers (and enough of them) as it
will likely be pretty cold on the beach and Owen Pt. With the rain
last night, some sections of trails are a bit wet today so I would
suggest having some kind of waterproof footwear available in case they
haven't dried up. There may also be some ticks about, although these
are usually only encountered if one walks off trail - I have removed 5
from me today (so far)! We meet at 8 a.m. in the Beach 1 parking lot
and will likely bird Presqu'ile till about 1230 or so, then break for
lunch, then head toward Peter's Woods, meeting there around 2 p.m. If
you want to bring a lunch, it will give you a bit more time to explore
the park, but if not there will be time to go into Brighton for a
restaurant lunch if desired.
It's always hard to predict what birds we might see but the park has
been very good yesterday and today so hopefully some of these birds
will remain for tomorrow. Highlights over the past two days include
Tufted Titmouse at two sites, a male Least Bittern flushed from a tree
behind the Visitor Centre (!), Iceland Gull, over 20 species of
warblers including Blue and Golden-winged, Cape May, Parula, Canada,
Bay-breasted, as well as Lincoln's Sparrow, Scarlet Tanager, Indigo
Bunting, Orchard Oriole.
Cheers,
Doug McRae
