Today three groups of Whimbrel (2, 24 and 30) were recorded between
6:00 am and 1:15 pm. Also present were 7 Black-bellied Plovers, 1
Semipalmated Plover, 7 Spotted Sandpipers, 2 Ruddy Turnstones and 5
Semipalmated Sandpipers. At total of 11 Common Loon were also
recorded. For the record, the final total from yesterdays Whimbrel
count was 886 with the addition of three large flocks seen between
3:30 and 4:30 pm. The preliminary total for the 2013 TOC Whimbrel
watch is 2130 [totals from the previous 4 Whimbrel Watches: 2009:
3705; 2010: 1701; 2011: 2610; 2012: 4693].
