Can anyone out there help me. There is a humming bird at my feeder acting strangely. It doesn't appear to be injured and I believe it is a juvenile. As it is perched it points its beak in the air and its tongue goes in and out as its head bobs up and down. This may be normal behaviour but I have never seen this before. It appears to be be in some sort of distress, perhaps from the heat. It seems to fly ok as when I approach too close it will fly to another perch and repeat this behaviour. It seems to be drinking the nectar from my feeder ok and I always keep my feeder clean replacing the nectar every week.
