Sat 20/7 - 6.30am-10.10am. These two birds were present this morning, along with 8 other species of shorebird, in the fenced cell. The habitat behind the fence is as good as we could ever hope for.Other new arrivals were SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER. I was surprised to count a total of 8 SOLITARY SANDPIPER among the flock, which has increased quite a bit from last week. There was a calling SORA in Cell 2, although I never did manage to see it. Also of note were 2 GREEN HERON, perched in the willows on the east side of Cell 3, a fly-over Meadowlark and at the woodland edge at the west end of Cell 2, the following:- an adult YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, Great-Crested Flycatcher, Blue-grey Gnatcatcher and adult male American Redstart. A very pleasant morning to be out. DIRECTIONS - from the east, follow Hwy 8 through Stratford, to the first traffic lights in Mitchell. Turn LEFT onto Wellington Street and follow it to Frank Street. Continue on the gravel road, past the Ball Diamond, to the parking lot. From the west, follow Hwy 8 into Mitchell. At the bottom of the hill, turn RIGHT on to Hwy 23 South. Turn LEFT onto Frank Street (the last street on the left), over the bridge and up the hill. Turn RIGHT on to the gravel road at the Ball Diamond and follow it to the parking lot. From the south, follow Hwy 23 to Mitchell. Just past the blue "Mitchell" sign, turn RIGHT on to Frank Street (at the 50km/h sign) and proceed over the bridge to the Ball Diamond. Turn right on to the gravel road to the parking lot. Cell 2 is beside the parking lot, Cell 3 is east of the fenced cell and Cell 5 is the large cell to the south-east.
