Just came across a juv Laughing Gull hahaha! (sorry couldn't resist) at the north end of west cranberry pond in the Pelee marsh best accessed via kayak or canoe (it's a long swim! ;)
Also some clarification for those interested in the marsh paddle for the sept 28-29th OFO annual general meeting led by myself and Kory Renaud is it is nescessary to either bring your own kayak/canoe and mandatory safety gear or you can rent one at Pelee Wings nature store or the friends of Point Pelee marsh rentals. It would be wise to reserve in advance as they can sell out quickly. We will not be going out with any hint of rain or high winds. Conditions in the marsh r good to excellent right now for backwards binocular views ;) of typically 12 or sometime more shorebird species, and something fancy is always possible as I've seen 31 shorebird species total now in the marsh! Also herons, Sandhills cranes, lots o ducks and lots of cormorants and sometimes intersting mammals like muskrats, beavers and raccoons chasing cormorants! We can also get lucky on a rail or two, marsh wrens and even bobolinks! Also for the herpatopogists in you we sometimes get blandings turtles, snappin turtles and painted turkles ;) and bullfrogs! It's a great time so Kory and I hope to see you soon!
