Temperatures hovered around the low 60s throughout. The wind was moderate and out of the north. Raptor Observations: Well, things were looking up at the start with a steady diet of Broadwings enlivening our first three hours. But little by little, the flight line shifted farther and farther south, and eventually out of view. Reports from observers at Point Mouille indicated that close to 20,000 Broadwings were seen from the headquarters there during the afternoon. The day's highlight came around midday when a first year peregrine undertook a spectacular stoop into the woods at our back, delighting the awestruck onlookers below. Non-raptor Observations: Not much going on today. Predictions: Partly cloudy, moderate temps and light east wind. Any day now could be the big one. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
