He found the Common Gallinule that I attempted to find for my OFO tour on Saturday and was the person who reported that there were 15 species of warbler in the old day camping area of Holiday Beach. Weather: It started off mostly cloudy with some regional fog that limited visibility, but the afternoon was mostly sunny. The temperature ranged from 16-20C. The winds had a westerly component for the first 4.5 hours of the count and then shifted out of the south. Winds ranged from 3 - 8 km/hr. Raptor Observations: A slow day with only 313 raptors of 5 species. The majority of the birds at 271 was Turkey Vulture all well out to the north. Non-raptor Observations: It was also a slow non-raptor day with 29 species. Chimney Swifts continue to leave the Province with another 12 today. Blue Jays totalled 4,679. There were more passerines around the base of the hawk tower than there has been in recent days with both species of Kinglet, 10 species of Warbler (15 species were reported in the park) and the first Dark-eyed Juncos for the year including 1 "pink-sided". A flock of 14 Indigo Bunting also flew over. 11 Monarchs. Predictions: It is going to be another warm fall day with mostly clear skies and temperatures ranging from 14 - 26C. Winds are forecasted to be out of the SW at 15-25 km/hr so it could be another slow migration day. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Todd Pepper ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
