There are several dozen eastern blue birds flying around my back yard feeder at Kerr Field. The feeder contains black oil sunflower. Cluster flies and many other insects are swarming everywhere including around the spruce and birch (beside the feeder) in this warm weather.
For those in S. Ontario who might think significant numbers of blue birds is normal for mid-October, Kerr Field is 6km north of Bruce Mines on the north shore of Lake Huron between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie. Until today, my bird boxes had been empty for a couple months. Our summer birds are long gone and the white crowned sparrows are moving through. >From Bruce Mines on highway 17, north on 638 to McPhail, east to intersection of Chapman, north side of road. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
