Weather: Quite a variable day with full clouds to no clouds in the matter of half an hour after 10 a.m. even though the barometric pressure remained stable at 29.78 in Hg. The winds blew out of the SW for most of the day from 10 - 25 km/hr. The day started warm at 18C and fell throughout the day only to climb back up to almost 18% at closing. Raptor Observations: A slow day except for the hours between 10 a.m. and Noon. A total of 771 raptors of 7 species, of which 712 were Turkey Vultures. Non-raptor Observations: Another day of almost no non-raptor migration. Only 11 Jays and 24 Red-winged Blackbirds today. Also singles of: Pectoral Sandpiper; Downy Woodpecker; Song Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, Rusty Blackbird; and Monarch. Predictions: The forecast for Thursday is Cloudy with the chance of showers, 40$ in the a.m. and 90% in the p.m. A limited temperature range of 10-13C. Winds are projected to be out of the SW again from 15-20 km/hr, so all-in-all not the best conditions for migration. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Todd Pepper ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
