Ontbirds subscribers,
I have not relocated the first-winter male Common Eider yet this morning after
checking the lake between Thickson Woods and the Heydenshore Pavilion (bottom
of South Blair St. in Whitby). When I last saw it last night it was floating in
the waves west of Thickson Point with a small flock of American Black Ducks.
However, this morning I found a male Eurasian Wigeon in with the growing flock
of American Wigeons hanging out in the vicinity of Thickson Point. There was
also an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull flying around off the point. There are
also many American Pipits flying west this morning.
>From Highway 401, exit at Exit 412 (Thickson Road) and take Thickson Road S.
>south about 2 km to the cul-de-sac parking area at its southern terminus. Here
>you can follow the Waterfront Trail west out to the end of Thickson Point.
