Thanks to Tracy from the Canadian Peregrine Foundation and her fried Sherry for keeping me company this morning. Special thanks to my friend Jackie for braving the winds today and keeping me company all day! Weather: Overall a very breezy and partly sunny day. Nice amount of high clouds to pop the hawks into view. Temperatures ranged from 8.7C in the early morning to 17C in the afternoon. Winds were mainly from the West with some Southerly component throughout the day, ranging from 20.4 kph early down to an hour in the afternoon with only 4.1kph clocked. Visabiltiy was good through the day. Raptor Observations: Another "big number" Turkey Vulture day. Only 7 other raptor species rounding out the day. Birds were for the most part visable to the unaided eye. Non-raptor Observations: Song birds were hunkered down in the brisk morning winds with very little movement. The trees and bushes around the tower were quiet. Late morning brought some movement of Blue Jays 409, Red-winged Blackbirds 96, American Crows 134 (mainly in one large "murder") American Goldfinch 24+, Tree Swallows 2, Killdeer 2, Downy Woodpecker 1, and 3 Monarch Butterflies. Predictions: Cloudy and breezy with a chance of passing showers. Southwest winds with temps similar to today. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Cindy Isenhoff ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
