Weather: A cloudy day that ended in rain. The temperature ranged from 12 - 15C. The winds had a south or south-westerly component to them all day. While winds were forecasted at 30 km/hr with gusts to 50 km/hr the top end recorded during the day was 25, and the average was more in the range of 13 km/hr. Raptor Observations: A half decent flight of TV's in the morning and tapering off in the afternoon produced 1,016 of the 1092 raptors counted today. The highlight was the first Rough-legged Hawk for the count season. It was a light morph bird, so perhaps the same bird the hawk banders almost got in their nets yesterday. Non-raptor Observations: Another slow day for non-raptor migration with just 1,066 birds of 11 species. Three species made up 90% of the total with Blue Jays at 57% with 606 birds; Tree Swallows at 22% with 258 birds; and, American Crow at 12% with 126 birds. One Monarch today. Predictions: It is going to be chilly tomorrow with the temperature in the a.m. forecasted to be 3C, rising to 10C. It is going to be mostly cloudy, but only a low P.O.P of 10%. Winds are forecasted to be out of the W at 20 km/hr. TV's and Red-tails should be moving, and perhaps the occasional falcon. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Todd Pepper ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
