Weather: SW winds from 30-40km/hr. Peak gust 55+ km/hr during 10:00 hour. Skies were cloudy throughout the day with light drizzle/sleet late morning. Temperature range from 6.5-9.4 C Raptor Observations: The day started out with our first of two Merlins. We ended up with 318 raptors of 6 species. Thanks to Bob Hall-Brooks, and Rene Kielbasa who helped with the count. Non-raptor Observations: Glossy Ibis, originally spotted by Todd Pepper yesterday, made a couple flights across the E end of the marsh. Red-winged Blackbird 200+, American Coot 75, Canada Goose 40, Double-crested Cormorant 35, Bonaparte's Gull 30, Mallard 18, Blue Jay 15, Ring-billed Gull 12, Mute Swan 8, Gadwall 7, Wood Duck 6, Killdeer 6, Pied-billed Grebe 5, Great Egret 5, Great Egret 5, Great Blue Heron 4, Green-winged Teal 3, Northern Shoveler 2, Tree Swallow 2, Golden-crowned Kinglet 2, Northern Cardinal 2. Additional species included American Black Duck, Herring Gull, Belted Kingfisher, Downy Woodpecker, American Crow, Black-capped Chickadee, Ruby-crowned Kinglet and Dark-eyed Junco. Predictions: Mostly to variably cloudy skies with high temperature of 10 C.
