Observers: Al Stewart, Bob Hall-Brooks, Bob Pettit, Cindy Cartwright,
Kory Renaud, Paul Pratt
Visitors:
Paul Pratt had a small group (6) of birders on a scheduled field trip. They
were the excitement for the day. They pointed out many birds in the marsh
and a few that passed overhead. Thank you for coming and sharing your
skills.
Weather:
The day was cold with temp ranging 6.8C-9.8C and a wind from the SSE at the
start and finishing mostly from the SE from 1 km/h to 12 km/h toward the
end of the count period. Pressure was falling from 30.01 to 29.88 mm Hg
with a humidity of averaging 85%. Cloud cover was 100% with a very low
ceiling that moved eastward and there were high cirrus type clouds present
with some blue sky during the last 1 ½ hours. The bottom line: it was cold
and few birds.
Raptor Observations:
5 raptors; 1=RL, 2=SS, 2=CH. There were 3 Bald Eagles hanging around the
area that are residents.
Non-raptor Observations:
There were many migrants as flyovers including horned larks, lapland
longspurs-3, goldfinches, robins, tundra swans, hooded merganser-4, several
duck species in the marsh, cormorant-1, downy woodpecker, flicker, rusty
blackbird-1, bonaparte gulls, others. I have been counting for years and
for the first time I forgot the list of other species. :(
Predictions:
7 AM: 55 °F/12.7 °C Rain Showers, Winds 17 mph/27 km/h South, 100% chance
of precip.
10 AM: 59 °F/15 °C Chance of Rain, Winds 18 mph/27 km/h South, 90% chance
of precip.
1 PM: 61 °F/16 °C Chance of a Thunderstorm, Winds 23 mph/37 km/h South,
80% chance of precip.
