Hi there,

Today (November 18th) from 12:15 - 12:55 pm, I observed 4 Greater
White-fronted Geese (2 adults and 2 juveniles) among 700 (approx) Canada
Geese and 2 Richardson's Cackling Geese along the Carp Floodplain in Carp,
ON. Mike Tate and Bob Cermack had 5 Greater White-fronted's at this
location on November 16th; I am not sure of their ratio of adult/juvenile
from that date.

Afterwards, I ventured down Russ Bradley Rd., which is SW of the Carp
Floodplain, and, from 13:05 - 13:20 pm, I studied 2 other Richardson's. I
believe one is an immature. The other one of those 2, was striking -
resembling an Aleutian-type Cackling Goose w/ its broad white collar -
visually dividing the breast/neck area in a lovely tri-coloration of
gray-white-black. I just recently inquired about this "type" of
Richardson's and a local expert mentioned there's a percentage of
Richardson's that show this striking white neck collar. I can't resist
reviewing the Cackling Goose BNA account this eve to investigate this
further.

Many photos taken - especially of the striking white-collared Richardson's
Cackling Goose. Please email for photos.

Directions: From the 417, take exit 144 for Carp Rd. North toward Carp.
Merge onto Carp Rd. Continue North along Carp Rd, pass through the
Carp/March Rd intersection, continuing along Carp Rd, and, to your right,
or East, will be the Carp Floodplain. If the White-fronted's haven't moved
far from where I saw them, you can use a large up-rooted tree on the OTHER
SIDE of the floodplain as a beginning point for your search; they were
visible within that scope view at the time that I saw them. I hope that
helps!

Good birding,
Jon Ruddy
