After work I took a quick detour through LaSalle Park - nothing unusual seen on
the water, but I did have a large falcon pass through. It looked like it could
possibly have been a Gyrfalcon (but as in the noted below, I was not confident
in making that call). The first of season Snow Buntings were also nice to see.

Good birding!

large falcon sp. (Falco sp. (large falcon sp.)) 1 Not sure if this could
have been a Gyrfalcon or Peregrine Falcon; seemed a lighter gray than I would
expect for Peregrine. The bird came through shortly after I made the turn along
the shore. It passed by relatively low, perhaps 2/3 the height of the pumping
house - it flew from behind the pumping house on towards Rotary Park and then
out of sight. It gained altitude as it got farther from me. I did not get a
great view, and I have yet to see a Gyrfalcon, so I would not be confident
making that call (however I do see Peregrine Falcons fairly often - this bird
struck me as different). Total observation time was perhaps 30 seconds.
