Ontbirders There was a lot of confusion about this bird today. There were some false alarms. I went back at 3.30 pm and was shown a photo of a Common Loon and the birders and press reporter looking had not seen the Murre. I had no positive reports all day that I believed.
I know that birders drove long distances today, some coming back a second time when it was reported, only to be disappointed. We are all familiar with the ups and downs of chasing rarities. A Buddhist attitude is recommended! Tonight I had a phone report that the bird was seen a meter from shore near the Marriott Hotel at 4.15 pm. This is between the Delta Hotel where it was yesterday and the Kingston Yacht Club. After discussion with the observer I am convinced this was a genuine sighting. We will try in the am and post by 08.00 if we find the bird again. Paul Mackenzie (From the 401 exit south on Sir John A. Macdonald to Johnson street then left to the waterfront is a good route). _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
