Highlights:

ROSS'S GOOSE, SNOW GOOSE, SANDHILL CRANE, RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, SNOWY OWLS,
TUFTED TITMOUSE, NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, DARK-EYED
JUNCO (OREGON FORM)

City of Kingston

With the freeze well and truly set in, birds in Kingston are becoming
somewhat thin on the ground. The resident PEREGRINE FALCON was seen downtown
on 12th but is surely under-recorded. GREEN-WINGED TEAL continue near a
warm-water outfall in Belle Park and the immature dark phase SNOW GOOSE
reported last week in Lake Ontario Park was last seen in Cataraqui Bay on
7th. Kingston itself is not known for its scoters so four WHITE-WINGED
SCOTERS flying past the Olympic Harbour on 13th were of note. The SNOWY OWL
irruption continues with as many as 3 birds at Kingston Airport during the
week.

Prince Edward Point

Not too much to report other than a late SANDHILL CRANE and a single SNOWY
OWL on 10th, both seen near the harbour. The next day, a NORTHERN PINTAIL
and a CANVASBACK were reported at the same location.

Napanee/Hay Bay/Belleville

Just a tad late for last week's report, the AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was again
seen in Napanee on Friday 6th. A report from the Glen Ross area, Frankford
on 8th remains the last known observation. A ROSS'S GOOSE was reported on
Lake Ontario earlier today (13th) just west of the Lennox Generating
Station. Whether this is the same bird as previously noted on Hwy 8 (and
confirmed as pure Ross's), is unclear but certainly a possibility.

Howe Island

As last week and without the need to edit - 'the TUFTED TITMOUSE continues
to entertain, or frustrate, birders popping over to the island. RED-BELLIED
WOODPECKER is also regular at the same feeding station'.

Jefferson County, NY-US

The 8th proved productive for various observers at different locations with
RED-THROATED LOON at Black River Bay, RED-NECKED GREBE on Snowshoe Bay, 22
HORNED GREBE on Hovey's Island and NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD in Three Mile Bay.
Other birds seen that day included YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER and GREAT-HORNED
OWL.

Other Sightings

The number of TRUMPETER SWANS at Chaffey's Locks increased to an impressive
29 on 11th but may well drop off again as the lake freezes over - 'only' 12
were reported there on the 12th. A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW and 2
WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS appear to have taken up residence at Cranberry Lake,
Joyceville and an Oregon form of DARK-EYED JUNCO continues in Camden East.
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS (now just 1) continue at Heritage Park, Bath. The
RED-HEADED WOODPECKER at Gananoque Golf Club continues and 3 Eastern
Bluebirds were seen at Brewer's Mills, just north of Kingston on Hwy 15 on
11th.

Thanks to all those who submitted sightings over the last week.

Good birding!

Mark.
