Posting on behalf of Betty Learmouth, Count Coordinator. The 9th annual Holiday 
Beach CBC was held December 27, 2013. Weather was mild (-1 to +3), with light 
winds. The Big Creek marsh was frozen over, as was Lake Erie out to the 
shipping channel, although there was open water in some local drains and on the 
Detroit River.

A total of 72 species, slightly down from the 8 year average of 75 species were 
recorded. The total number of birds counted was 27,173. 

New species for the count:
Cackling Goose - 2

There were 4 new high count records set including:
Canada Goose - 11,918
Tundra Swan - 910
Great Blue Heron - 45
American Robin - 97

There were also 4 new low counts including:
Bufflehead - 1
Common Goldeneye - 13
Ring-billed Gull - 164
Dark-eyed Junco - 230
