Hi Ontbirds,
Twenty participants came out for the 6th annual Collingwood Christmas Bird 
Count on Saturday, 28 December 2013. Here is a summary of our results:
  a.. Count Day Species: 50 (no others known for count week), which is slightly 
below the average of 51; lowest species total was 42 and highest was 63
  b.. We had 4979 individual birds, which is the lowest ever (max. is 8154) and 
well below the average of 6626
  c.. all-time lows included: 10 Canada Goose, 9 Bufflehead, 1 Common 
Merganser, 39 Wild Turkey; 4 Great Black-backed Gull, 18 Northern Cardinal, 104 
House Sparrow
  d.. all-time highs were: 7 Bald Eagle (previous high 2), 2 Sharp-shinned 
Hawk, 8 Snowy Owl and 261 American Goldfinch
  e.. new for count birds: Ruffed Grouse, Winter Wren and White-crowned Sparrow
  f.. this brings the all-time species total for this count to 83
I’ll remember this count as one with lots of snow, not much open water and lots 
of Snowy Owls.
