In the midst of this long cold winter some birds are thinking spring. 
Black-capped Chickadee, Northern Cardinal and a few others can be heard 
singing, American Crows and Common Ravens can be seen interacting in flight, 
the local Eastern Red-tailed Hawks can be seen in pairs and the male Common 
Goldeneye are displaying. 
 
RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER (1) was found in the Marlborough Forest along Roger 
Stevens Dr NE of Dwyer Hill Rd on the 19th.
 
BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER continue to be seen occasionally along the Moodie Dr 
Jack Pine Trails usually near the feeder, 2 males and 1 female on the 15th.

RED-NECKED GREBE (1) was found below the Deschenes Rapids on the 16th.  

LAPLAND LONGSPUR, SNOW BUNTING and HORNED LARK continue along Lockhead Rd W 
just east and west of 4th Line Rd SE of North Gower. 
 
In the Winchester area on the 16th two local birders found RED-TAILED (18), 
COOPER'S (1) and ROUGH-LEGGED (1) HAWK, NORTHERN SHRIKE (5) and AMERICAN 
KESTREL (1).
 
The HERMIT THRUSH continues in the Britannia Conservation Area, it was found on 
the ridge on the 16th. Over wintering AMERICAN ROBINS continue, a flock of 25 
were found on Iris St on the 14th. The only winter finches being reported are 
very small numbers of PURPLE FINCH. GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET continue in Maple 
Hill Park.

Due to increasing and widespread concerns regarding disturbance of wildlife and 
property, the OFNC's Birds Committee no longer reports owl sightings on the 
Internet. We will continue to encourage the reporting of owls to
