Warmer weather and winds from the south should bring early returning birds to 
our area this coming week so keep your eyes open for spring migrants!

 

Gulls are finally returning, on the 11th from the Britannia Yacht Club there 
were RING-BILLED (211), HERRING (26), ICELAND (1), GLAUCOUS (3 ad 4 imm) and 
GREAT BLACK-BACKED (23).

 

On the Ottawa River around Bate Island on the 8th were RED-NECKED GREBE (3), 
BARROW'S GOLDENEYE (1m 1f), BUFFLEHEAD (3), COMMON MERGANSER (3) and many 
COMMON GOLDENEYE.

 

On the Mississippi River near the Mississippi Golf Club RED-NECKED GREBE (2) 
and at the Appleton bridge a very early PIED-BILLED GREBE on the 12th.

 

PEREGRINE FALCON were seen downtown at the Crown Plaza Hotel, on Eagleson Dr 
just north of Fallowfield Rd and in the Moodie Dr Stony Swamp area.

 

BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER (f) was found again on the 10th along the Moodie Dr 
Jack Pine Trails. 

Other reports were: GRAY PARTRIDGE (1) along Shea Rd, a singing NORTHERN SHRIKE 
downtown, COOPER'S, SHARP-SHINNED, RED-SHOULDERED (Chesterville area), 
ROUGH-LEGGED and RED-TAILED HAWKS. BALD EAGLE (2 at Shirley's Bay) and CANADA 
GOOSE (3) over the Reveler Recreational Trail.

Due to increasing and widespread concerns regarding disturbance of wildlife and 
property, the OFNC's Birds Committee no longer reports owl sightings on the 
Internet. We will continue to encourage the reporting of owls to
