Update on Mount Albert area Raptor. I am advised there had been a past
report of a leucistic Red-tailed hawk previously in the area. Dave Szmyr
contacted me today and advised he had seen a similar large white raptor
in the similar area back on January 15. He also saw it from a distance,
but saw it fly and call (which we did not) and was initially stumped,
but felt it was an albino R.T. hawk, which is a remarkable bird in
itself, and he had a photo of his bird from a distance. Although our
bird had some different characteristics leading us to Gyrfalcon in the
bird we saw, it may well be a leucisitic R.T. hawk. Unfortunately, I
will be away and not able to re-visit the area, so possibly others might
get a better look at this bird.
