Birders, This bird has been present most of the winter and has been seen on and off. This morning around 8:30 AM, Lisa Teskey, Joanne Redwood and I saw this stunning raptor, and were able to take several diagnostic photographs. The bird was on a telephone wire on the east side of Highway 6, just south of Caledonia. It was near a sign that reads "Willow Grove", between 4th Line and 5th Line. This bird looks very similar to a bird that has over-wintered on Stoney Creek Mountain this year.
Directions: This bird has always been seen in this general vicinity when it has been reported. Hwy 6 AKA Caledonia Parkway, AKA Plank Road can be accessed by taking the 403 Hamilton, then get on Hwy 6 South to Port Dover/Haggersville/Caledonia. Keep on Hwy 6 just south of Caledonia after crossing the Grand River and passing Argyle Street, and start checking the area near the Hwy. If you go south as far as Haggersville, you've gone too far. E-mail me if you have any questions.
