Skilled birders are needed to survey Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) routes in Ontario. Volunteers must be good at birding by ear, have a reliable vehicle, and be able to survey their route in June or early July for several years.
Volunteers are particularly needed to cover routes in northern Ontario (especially east of Lake Nipigon). Surveyors covering priority routes in northern Ontario may be eligible for financial assistance for travel expenses. A few BBS routes are available in southern Ontario near Dundalk, Kitchener, Arnprior, Sudbury and Espanola. Detailed information on the BBS program can be found on the Canadian BBS website http://ec.gc.ca/reom-mbs/default.asp?lang=en&n=416B57CA. A map showing available routes in Ontario is available at: https://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbs/RouteMap/Map.cfm# For more information contact Audrey Heagy, Ontario BBS Coordinator, at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> or 1-888-448-2473 x 166.
