About 30 birders joined me on a very pleasant day of birding various spots within the Prince Edward County South Shore Important Bird Area ( http://ibacanada.org/site.jsp?siteID=ON003&lang=EN) for the first(?) annual spring OFO trip here. We had perfect weather and the birds were pretty cooperative, too.
With a couple birds seen en route (Glaucous Gull and Snowy Owl) eBird tells me the group total was 96 species for the day. The highlight had to be the pair of King Eiders (continuing birds) at the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory but we also enjoyed a nice mix of waterfowl and typical late April landbirds including Palm, Pine and Yellow-rumped Warblers and a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. Special thanks goes to the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory for the use of their facilities and the generous provision of coffee. And of course to the many sets of eyes and ears that helped spot birds today! Here's the list of locations we visited with the associated eBird checklists: Kaiser Cross Road: http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S18019793 Cressy Lakeside Road: http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S18019852 Black River Bridge: http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S18019888 Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory: http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S18021244 Point Petre: http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S18021276 Wellington Harbour: http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S18021307 Feel free to email me privately if you'd like additional information about any of the stops or birds we saw.
