The day started with a thunderstorm coming across the lake which may have been responsible for the increase in bird activity in the Park today. A good number of some species has been reported so far. Many pockets of birds throughout the Park. About 15+ species of warbler have been reported so far.
At Tip a LITTLE GULL and several BLACK TERNS were noted flying about. A GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER was found and though not reported to us until now, it seems a "regular" WORM-EATING WARBLER has been noted for a few days just south of the boardwalk area south of the washrooms at the Tip. There was a WHITE-EYED VIREO seen as well. On the Redbud trail about 100 metres south of the intersection with the Woodland Nature Trail there was a LAWRENCE'S WARBLER (hybrid). An EASTERN SCREECH-OWL is been seen high up in a hole on a tree near the A bridge (farthest north) on the Woodland Trail. Also on this trail at the south end bridge, E, the LOUISIANA WARBLER and at least one NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH were again reported. A HOODED WARBLER was found south of Visitor Centre. Tilden Woods was more active this morning. YELLOW-THROATED and WHITE-EYED VIREO were both reported. HOODED, BLACK-THROATED BLUE, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, REDSTART, OVENBIRD, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH and many other warblers were noted. Sparrow species such as LINCOLN'S, SWAMP, WHITE-THROAT and others were seen as well. A RUSTY BLACKBIRD and RED-HEADED WOODPECKER were also found. A few reports of SANDHILL CRANE have been made.
