I birded the park from 12:30 to 5:00 pm. Shortly after I arrived, a
raven flew into a small tree on the grassy area east of the Dogwood
Patch. Within 3 minutes it flew into one of the large spruces at the
north end of the dogwood patch. Within a few minutes another raven
flew from the sw with a large stick stick in it's bill and disappeared
into the same tree. About 2 hours later, I saw a raven also with
nesting material fly into the same tree. It was the second-most
southerly three. I am not aware of any other postings for this nest or
Ravens in the park and in must certainly be a second nesting attempt
because this species know to be an early nester. There was a pair of
American Crows in large bow; I did not see any interaction between the
ravens and crows.
Also, just as I was leaving, the rain started and triggered a mini
fallout of warblers into the small bowl (close to 100 warblers) one of
which was male Golden-winged Warbler. For the record, I recorded 15
species of warblers. I was also able locate the Clay-colored Sparrow
seen earlier in the day.
Directions:
The parking lot for the park is located at south end Col. Sam. Smith
Drive which runs off Kipling south of Lakeshore.
