A male Hooded Warbler was seen today from 10 AM to 4 PM at Rattlesnake Point CA below the cliffs used by recreational climbers. Based on the bird's frequent singing and habitat of dense shrubs and saplings within the larger forest, it seems reasonable to expect this bird to be attempting to breed at this location rather than being on migration.
Directions: Rattlesnake Point CA is located on the western side of Appleby Line to the south of Hwy 401 and just north of Derry Rd. From the parking lot in the CA, walk south a short distance on a hiking trail to Pinnacle Outlook where a staircase allows you to descend the cliff face safely. The Hooded Warbler may be audible from the base of the staircase or you can try walking about 50 metres west along the base of the cliff. The bird was singing in the shrubs and saplings that begin below the base of the cliff. You need to exercise caution as walking is challenging across the talus slope of broken rock.
