Today, Stu Williams and I made the trip from Durham Region to Amherst for the Lark Bunting. What a beautiful, pastoral location !!! ... and a great bird in/for Southern Ontario.
Got the Bunting upon the arrival at 2nd Concession and McGinn... it was on the wires singing. The bird is totally ambivalent to nearby observers... it just doesn't care. At one point, it came down to feed on the roadside but normally it was on the wires or in the grassland back and below the wires. We traveled around the area for some time seeing most expected grassland and farmland species.... tons of birds. When we passed the location again on the way back to the ferry, there were other birders there getting good views.... it seems that if you make the trip, you will not be disappointed. Directions ... after leaving Ferry dock proceed straight ahead on Stella to 2nd Concession. Turn right on 2nd Concession and proceed to McGinn. Bird will be on wires just before intersection on left side (or will be within a minute or two). _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
