Hi Ontbirders,
Last night I was checking out the egret roost just west of Demorestville in Prince Edward County and from 1848 to 1920 hrs and counted 24 egrets going to roost in the trees just beyond the standing water, including blue wing-tagged egret # 94B. That egret was banded and tagged by us on 26 June 2014 at Nottawasaga Island near Collingwood and was too young to fly at that time. Directions: They are doing construction on the Hwy 14 bridge in Demorestville, so previous directions I have posted have to be amended a little. From Demorestville, take Hwy 15 north for a short distance to the Gommorah Rd, turn left (west); this will take you to Hwy 14, where you should turn right (also west) and go 1.0 km, or 0.4 km from house #415 on Hwy 14. There will be a small cleared opening in the cedar trees to your left (and a metal fence post with a tennis ball on it...and a fresh-looking red and white "New Trespassing" sign. The roost is in the extensive flooded woodlot beyond the pasture on the other side of the wire fence; egrets often forage in the shallow water. This is private property where cows and a bull are often grazing but the owners did remove a few trees at the viewing spot, so please be respectful. Also, please report to me privately on the number of egrets you see there and any band/tag numbers. Thanks, Chip _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
