Hello Ontbirders,

Not that significant at this time of year, but here in York Region there aren't
many places for shorebirds. I was driving on the 407 to check out Reesor Pond
and at Birchmount I saw 2 Great Egrets so decided to stop in at the pond on my
way back home. When I stopped in to check it out at 4:45 I found 4 Great
Egrets, 1 Greater Yellowlegs and a Stilt Sanpiper. The Stilt Sand was feeding
by the rocks on the west side of the pond (nearest Birchmount), right behind a
locked fence. I was able to digiscope a couple of shots as the bird fed (it
was actively feeding during the 15 minutes I was there).

None of the Great Egrets were tagged.

At Reesor Pond the water has come down a little in the last 2-3 weeks so the
two spits of land are now showing again (they were covered most of the summer),
nothing really of note here other than a female Redhead, an eclipse male
American Wigeon, a few GW Teal, a Lesser Yellowlegs and a Trumpeter Swan that
has been there all summer.

All birds have been entered in ebird

DIRECTIONS:

Birchmount Rd runs N-S between Warden & Kennedy and the pond is a few metres
south of Hwy 407 on the east side of Birchmount. There are often Egrets in it
throughout the summer.

Reesor Pond lies just north of Hwy 407 on the west side of Reesor Rd, which is
just east of Donald Cousens Parkway in Markham.

Good birding,
