Lot's more birds to come I'm sure. :) Weather: An almost fall like day with a nice mix of sun and cloud and cooler temps starting at 16C and getting to a high of 21C. Winds were moderate N dropping to light from the NNW by the end of the count period. Raptor Observations: We had 4 migrating raptors...shortly after 10:00 AM (EST), Keith showed up, stepped up onto the mound, and said, "There's a Harrier off the slope." The harrier was followed a few minutes later by an AK, then . . . local redtails, local TVs, lots of local eagles flying "stupid high" as our Colin used to say. Finally 2 more AKs made the dash across the field between shortly before 12:00 PM (EST). Non-raptor Observations: The feeding frenzy around and in the old mulberry tree continued, with a slight lull around 11:30 AM. Traffic picked up again during the noonhour. Highlights were a Scarlet Tanager, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers galore, Great-crested, Least and Willow Flycatcher plus Phoebe, a Kingfisher that flew across the field, many Ruby-throated Hummingbirds (check the jewelweed patches!), Carolina Wren, Warbling, Philadelphia and Red-eyed Vireos and the following warblers: Black & White, Cape May, Blackburnian, Bay-breasted, Redstart, Black-throated Blue and Magnolia. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.on.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
