Just before 12:00 pm today I observed 3 Buff-breasted Sandpipers in a recently
harvested sod farm on the south side of the 12th line, SE of Alliston.

The Buff-breasted Sandpipers were loosely associating with the other shorebirds
present but for the most part stuck to the field divide between the unharvested
sod field to the East.

Due to the large volume of rainfall received overnight, there was a good amount
of ponded water on the south side of the road, providing excellent temporary
habitat for several migrating shorebirds.

Other shorebirds present included; both Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Pectoral
and Baird's Sandpipers, Semipalmated Plovers and 9 Adult Black-bellied Plovers
(all still in breeding plumage).

This location was approximately 1 km East of Tottenham Road on the 12th Line.
It can be reached by exiting Hwy 400 onto Hwy 89 and heading West. Once you
reach the 10th Sideroad turn south and follow it to the 12th Line.

As the forecast over the next week would appear quite sunny, without much
precipitation, it is only a matter of time before this particular location will
dry up once again.

Good birding,

Dave Szmyr
