Despite NW early, I had a number of highlights from my condo balcony looking at the west end of Lake Ontario. In the past hour, winds have shifted from the NE (typically much better), so hopefully the birds keep coming!
So far today: 3 adult LITTLE GULLS (rare in Hamilton) 9 juv SABINE'S GULLS 3 LONG-TAILED JAEGERS (2 juv, 1 sub adult) 2 juv PARASITIC JAEGERS Over 100 Common Terns have been close enough to ID as well (large number for the time of year) and a wide variety of waterfowl has also flown past. 1 Peregrine Falcon (juvenile female, banded in the USA) rounds out the main highlights. The place to watch is likely Lakeland Tower at Van Wagner's Beach in Hamilton - birders there are reporting similar sights. See below for directions Good Birding! Brandon Holden www.PeregrinePrints.com ---- ‎Directions to Van Wagners Beach: Take the Centennial Parkway (Hwy.20) exit from the QEW in east Hamilton and proceed north to the North Service Rd., turn left and continue west as it turns into Van Wagners Beach Road. Continue to the parking lots at either Hutch's Restaurant or the Lakeland Centre viewing tower and view the lake anywhere near here. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
