Subject: [GeneseeBirds-L] NE shore Lake Erie, Olive-sided Flycatcher,
Buff-breasted Sandpiper
September 9 - At Rock Point Provincial Park the best event was a spectacular
flight of Double-crested Cormorants. Between 7:15 and 8:30 17,100 cormorants
were counted. The flight was at maximum at 7:15 so I may have missed half of
the cormorants. Also 5 Semipal. Plovers with a Black-bellied Plover,
LONG-TAILED DUCK, six warbler species including 2 Canada Warblers and 2
Black-thr. Blue Warblers, and an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER at the south end of
Downy Road.
At Mosaic Ponds (along Rhymer Rd. west of Downy Rd.) there were 2 Great Egrets,
a Gadwall, a Pied-billed Grebe, and Greater Yellowlegs. At the corner of Sidell
and Rhymer Roads there were 27 Blue-winged Teal.
Wainfleet a MERLIN (chased a small bird across Highway #3) and at the Bog at
the end of Erie Peat Road, Great Crested Flycatcher, Ovenbird, and Nashville
Warbler for a total of 9 warbler species.
At the Poth Road Sod Farms a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER (south side of Poth Road
about 150 yards east of Hutchins Road) 36 Horned Lark flock, 33 BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS, and 153 Killdeer.
Best Wishes for Great Birding,
Bill Watson
