Weather: A colourful sunrise was a great start to the day with a slight fog over the marsh; very peaceful. The light breeze came from almost every compass point at some point during the day. There was typically more than 70% cloud cover and some drizzle around noon. Raptor Observations: There was not a lot of raptor movement today but the low clouds also kept the Sharp-shinned hawks low and easy to see from the tower, even with the naked eye. 110 Sharp-shins today, followed by 12 American Kestrels, 2 Northern Harriers and 2 Cooper's Hawks. Non-raptor Observations: Passerines were in low abundance today as well, with a little activity at sunrise but quieting right down for the rest of the day. More Chimney Swifts were seen flying overhead than there have been since the beginning of the season and swallows were, as usual, milling around in the skies for most of the day. Pied-billed grebes fishing and muskrat eating vegetation provided much amusement between raptors. 10 R-throated Hummingbirds, 2 Monarchs. See today's eBird list for more: http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S19844683 Predictions: A sunny day with 10-15km/h winds coming from the NW in the morning and W in the afternoon. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
